Queen of the Blues R.I.P.
Well, I woke up this morning and heard that Koko Taylor died today at the age of 80. I saw her about 20 years ago at the Chicago Blues Festival and she was awesome.
she was awesome indeed - I only got to see her in concert once, but I remember she brought the house down with her cover of Bob Seger's "Come to Mama (Papa)"!
She used to play at The Checkerboard Lounge, my home away from home in the '70's—when it was owned by Buddy Guy and Junior Wells. Those days had two characteristics I faintly remember. a) I drank more then. b)I was less shy then. I guess one time I talked between sets to her bass player de nuit, I guess offering to host him and try to help him get music work if he ever found himself in Dallas. Was I ever surprised when he showed up in my office many years later looking for a place to crash for a couple of days. Nice kid, though...
I am a regular guy in my mid-forties. I have a lovely wife and three great kids. When I was in College my friends and I were always into music. As people's lives get busier with family and work it is difficult to keep abreast of new music. I have created this blog to expose people like me to some new music as well as old favorites. Please take a listen and go out and support the artists you like. I appreciate you following the blog and I would love to hear your comments.
The MP3s are for sampling purposes only. My hope is that you will go buy the album if you like what you hear. If you have any complaints, please contact me directly.
