I'm Goin' Down

Vampire Weekend covered Bruce Springsteen's "I'm Goin' Down" the other night in concert.  Check how they compare to the original.  Not too bad.

Cadillac Ranch

On our way back from Colorado we stopped at Cadillac Ranch just west of Amarillo, TX on I40.  It is a public art display of old cadillacs sticking in the ground of a farm pasture.  If you are ever driving near Amarillo it is worth the stop and make sure you bring spray paint.

It's Sunday

It's Super Bowl Sunday!

Jack Johnson - Mudfootball
Rick Derringer - Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again

I wonder what songs The Who is going to perform during this year's halftime show.  Here is Bruce Springsteen from last year.

Under The Covers

This week's cover song is Bruce Springsteen's 'I'm On Fire'. The first cover is by A.A. Bondy, a folk singer that is worth checking out. The next cover is by Bat for Lashes, another band worth checking out with a lead singer who sounds a lot like Kate Bush. The third cover is by a band called Coltrane Motion. I like the cover but, to be honest, I do not know much about them except for the fact they hail from Chicago.

Here is the original version:

4th of July Weekend

The boys and I hit the neighborhood parade this morning.  Not much of a parade but all the kids get to decorate their bikes, scooters, wagons, etc..  My youngest won a prize for the most patriotic hair.  He does have a slight advantage since he is a natural redhead.

Tomorrow is going to be an action packed 4th of July.  We are heading down to the Lakewood 4th of July parade to watch the parade at our friends' house.  My oldest son will be in the parade with his baseball team that won its third championship in a row.  Tomorrow night we are watching fireworks with friends.

It is going to be hot out there this weekend so make sure you have cod drinks handy.  Happy 4th of July!

Here is a mix for the 4th of July Weekend BBQ:

Here is a song to play with the fireworks grand finale.  You cannot beat Ray Charles rendition of America The Beautiful

Under the Covers

I am a big fan of cover songs.  I guess it might go back to all of the bar bands I have listened to over the years.   I am going to try to have a weekly posting dedicated to a cover song.  This week's post is a cover of Bruce Springsteen's 'Glory Days' by The Avett Brothers.
Here is the video:

The Avett Brothers are a fun, rockin' bluegrass band out of North Carolina.
Here is a track from their album Emotionalism:
